t (日常英会話, カフェ、オンラインレッスン) (Oct/23/2020)

仕事で英語での電話会議が多いのですが、聞くばかりで自分の意見が言えないのが歯がゆくてレッスンを始めました。
自分にとって初めての個人レッスンでしたが、Rick先生は幅広い知識があって、旅行や日本文学やニュース、コメディなどどんな話にも楽しく返してくれます。たくさんの国に旅行されていて楽しいエピソードをたくさんお持ちなので、1時間のレッスンはあっという間にすぎてしまいます。
また自分の意見を言いやすい空気を出してくれたり、表現が間違っている場合はきちんと指摘してくれるので、2ヶ月ほどで会議でも英語で自分の意見が伝えられるようになりました。
単語の量はあまり変わっていないのですが、英会話に自身がついたことが、自分にとっては大きかったです。
以前に英会話教室に数年間通ったことがありますが全く上達せず、今思うと冷や汗をかくほど英語に集中していなかったからだと思います。
Rick先生との個人レッスンでは、英語だけにしっかり集中できて、楽しく話を聞いたり意見を伝えたりできるので、自然と英会話が身に付くと思います。

リック先生はとても日本語が上手で日本文化にも詳しいです。
明るくてすごく話しやすい。友達のようで気さくです。
私はポルトガル語と英語を教えてもらっています。
「私の父親の世代ではそういう表現をしていたが今はこんな言い方だよ。」
「英語では〇〇という表現だけどポルトガル語ではこういうんだ。」という感じでなんでも教えてくれます。
小学校や国立大学、さらに中央官庁でも仕事の経験があります。

ブラジルへの夫の転勤に伴う帯同赴任を前に、時間的な余裕のないなか、先生を探しておりました。
EnjoyLessonを通して複数の先生に問合せを送ったところ、最初に応答してくださったのがRicardo先生です。当初からレッスンシステムや料金制度がはっきりと提示され、非常に明快だったのを覚えています。
出国までの時間が限られている中、彼はできる限りのレッスン回数を確保してくれ、多いときは週に4回ほど見てくれたこともあります。内容は全般にアカデミックであり、同時にプラクティカルでもあります。ひょうきんな一面もあり、動詞の活用でこちらが参っていると、「使わないと思うけど、現地の人は言うから」と言って罵り言葉なども教えてくれたことがあります。
期間中に代々木で開催されたブラジルフェスタを案内してくれたことさえありました。
また副教材として手打ちの宿題を作成してくださり、ブラジルに来たいまも取り組んでいます。
全体の感想として、同じ条件で別の先生に教えてもらっている生徒さんがいると仮定した場合、おそらく私は３倍以上の量を教わることができたと思っています。本当にラッキーな巡りあわせとしか言えません。
なお、私とのレッスンの際に使用した言語は英語でしたが、日本語も大変お上手です。
